Lisa Eggerling

President

Lisa Eggerling has truly found her “home” with Cowboy Dressage. She knew after attending her first Cowboy Dressage clinic, she had found her passion.

“Cowboy Dressage offers so much for so many disciplines, and it gives me such a useful tool to help riders become better horsemen and strengthen the relationships with their horses.”

Lisa is a Cowboy Dressage Level 1 Recommended Clinician and Learner Judge. She is dedicated to the growth of this discipline and is honored to serve as president of Cowboy Dressage World Nebraska and making a difference for the group.

Vice President

I was raised in Northern California and grew up riding with my grandmother all over the hills of west Marin. The western lifestyle has always appealed to me, but I didn't like the fussiness and cutthroat competitiveness that was common at Western shows there.

When I was still in California, I lucked into a senior Arabian gelding who loved trail riding and endurance, and when he retired after we'd moved to Nebraska I found a cousin of his; but Shutan didn't seem like a good fit for endurance. Finding Cowboy Dressage - a discipline rooted in partnership with the horse - felt like coming home for both of us. We both love the communication, precision, and partnership.  In 2023 I purchased another cousin as a short yearling, and hope to develop him into a cowboy dressage horse too!

I'm passionate about Cowboy Dressage and growing this club through outreach and event development, and I'm excited to be here for the clinics, the practices, the shows, and the camaraderie!

I was born and raised in Kansas. I convinced my parents to buy me a horse when I was 8, and many more soon followed. I gave riding lessons, which turned into a job cleaning stalls, chores, breeding mares, and colt starting by the time I was a teenager. During high school and beyond, I showed in 4-H, competed on our State Hippology/Quiz Bowl team, rode in Prairie Dusters Drill Team I started my own business buying & selling ponies and riding colts.

I’ve always felt a pull to do more with horses, and Cowboy Dressage is one way for me to do that. I’ve never been interested in competition much, but I LOVE growing my knowledge, riding with like-minded people, and becoming a better horseman, which fits in perfectly with the principles of Cowboy Dressage. I’m passionate about learning and helping other people learn, as well.

This is my second year in the club, and I also serve on the Membership and Outreach Committee. I’m excited to be a part of and help grow Cowboy Dressage Nebraska!

Ann Gillentine

Treasurer

My passion for horses started when my dad won a Shetland pony in a card game when I was four years old. We only had her for about a year and a half, and I spent several horseless years until I was able to start taking lessons when I turned 13. I started out riding saddle seat and transitioned to hunt seat when the barn changed hands. I rode western and hunt seat while in high school and switched completely to hunter/jumper in my late teens.

Many years passed and after the loss of my heart horse and increases in job demands left me not wanting to ride a few health issues made me realize I wasn’t ready to quit riding after all. I currently ride western (although my love for the h/j world will never fade) and am loving learning about Cowboy Dressage on my wonderful ranch gelding. I am thrilled to be on the Board and looking forward to my growth in Cowboy Dressage with the wonderful people I've met!

I have been riding (and learning) with Dominic since he was six months old (now going on 20)! Attending clinics, connecting with other horse riders, trainers, farriers and riding groups has been such a positive journey. Finding Cowboy Dressage World Nebraska has been such a pleasure. There is encouragement, goal setting, events and opportunities to grow in connection to the horse and with people.

I support keeping the website running.

I grew up riding my sister's horses. We lived on the edge of the suburbs and I could walk to the barn. Mostly, we rode on gravel roads. There’s a big gap without horses until my sister moved back into the area, got an acreage, and we started riding again when I was in my mid forties.

I ride in Competitive Trail Riding (NATREC) and Cowboy Dressage. Cowboy Dressage skills definitely transfer over and improve my trail riding. The members of the group are incredibly helpful and supportive. I have really enjoyed my cowboy Dressage experiences.

I have been connected with Cowboy Dressage for many years now. I first got involved because it was something I could compete in with my gaited horse. As I got deeper, I fell in love with the partnership and soft feel that is the foundation of it all. I have really enjoyed the in-hand and liberty classes. The people are amazing and it is also wonderful cross training for other equestrian endeavors such as competitive trail riding where I also compete.

The horse bug bit me during my childhood, while riding my cousins’ 4H/rodeo horses on the trails in western Nebraska.  I didn’t start formal lessons until my early 20s in classical dressage, and at the time I didn’t even know what dressage was, ha!  I bought my first horse, a warmblood mare, in my late 20s, but my 2nd horse, a semi-retired roping horse, brought me back to the western world.  I now ride and compete on a quarter horse named Shrek.  Cowboy dressage first piqued my interest because of the obstacles in the challenge court, but I knew for sure I wanted to be involved after meeting the wonderful people in the club.  Everyone is very welcoming, kind, and supportive, no matter the level of experience or skill.  I also really love the horsemanship aspect and have learned so much about my own riding and how to develop a true partnership with my horse.

It wasn't until I bought my second horse that I put my foot into the horse show world. I did like the experience of learning and teaching a horse beyond basics. On thing I noticed is that the further they got into the discipline they are training for, they never went back to the basics.

My current horse has been cross-trained and has done many disciplines. Reining and cutting, showed in about ev erything in open shows. He did some barrels and poles untils his body couldn't handle it. We still show in ranch riding. But with Cowboy Dressage, nothing humbles you more than going back to the basics and finding holes in your riding.

I am excited to be on the board to watch and help it grow. To also learn more and help others grow.
